You can edit an object and its attributes at any time. However, some settings cannot be changed once data exists in the object, and structural changes can affect processes, screens, and integrations.
Before making structural changes, identify every process that depends on the object. See Assess the Impact of Attribute Changes.
What You Can Change on an Object
The following settings can be changed at any time:
Business Name
Description
Audited
Apply Data Security
Pre-Save Process
Post-Save Process
Lock Date
Filter on Modification Dates
The following cannot be changed:
System Name - this is permanent once the object is created
Edit an Object
Open the Configuration application and navigate to Objects \> Objects.
Locate the object using filters or page navigation.
Click Detail to display all settings.
Click Edit and make the required changes.
Enter an Audit Comment and click Save and Refresh.
What You Can Change on Attributes
The following can be changed at any time:
Business Name
Description
Validation rules
Unit
Filterable
Summary view visibility
The following can only be changed if the object contains no data:
Required (can only be set to True on an empty object)
Type
The following cannot be changed once the object has been saved:
System Name
Referenced Object (for Reference type attributes)
Unique Key membership
Type (once data exists)
Deleting an attribute permanently removes it and all data stored in it.
Edit Object Attributes
Navigate to Objects \> Objects and select the object.
In the Attribute section, click Detail, then click Edit.
Make the required changes.
Enter an Audit Comment and click Save and Refresh.
Important
Changing structural settings after data exists can have significant consequences. Before editing:
confirm no critical processes depend on the attribute being changed
confirm that reporting and integrations will not be affected
review any process logic workbooks that read from or write to the object
